It was published in Japanese translation in 2006, and that means I read it when I was in my mid 20s.
Although, I lost almost all memory of the story.
If you describe this book, you would say it’s a story of children who is colne and raised to be a donor. And that is not wrong, but that would blind you.
It’s not about this dystopia, but rather about life and death of all human.
It’s a very straightforward, basic, and classic story of life.
I don’t think I realized that when I was reading while being young.
I assumed it will be hard to read at work as carer, but it brought me a different place.
I read the very end of it while sunbathing and that was really great.
日本語版が2006年刊行なので、京都に住んでいた20代のころ、日本語で読んでいる（と、思う）。
とにかく記憶がほとんど残っていないのにびっくりした。
臓器移植のために生まれた子供たちの物語、というと、ディストピアものだと思いがちだし、実際薄れかかった記憶のなかでそれだけが残っていた。
でも、はっきりとはわからない悲しみが漂い、だれも説明してくれないまま進んでいく物語を、前提を知らずに読んだらどうだったろうかと思う。
最後の章で、これは異質で特殊なクローンたちの物語ではなく、すべての人間の、死ぬことと生きることについてのとても正統な物語なんだと気づく。
20代のころは多分ここまで読み込めていなかったと思う。
ケアの仕事をしながら読むのはつらいだろうとばかり予想しながら読んでいたので、ぜんぜん違うところへ持っていかれて爽快だった。
最後のぐっと重いところを日向ぼっこしながら読めたのがよかった。

It was busy day, but nevertheless I started new book.
“Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro.
I remember reading this in Japanese when I was living in Kyoto.
But forgot many things about, and realized that this is not good book to read in hospital.
I can feel that it will make me sad.
Also, I didn’t realize that it is British English.
Writing is first person, and pretty easy to read, but sometimes I found words I don’t know.
I tried to read in British English in my head.
なんだかばたばたと忙しい日。
でも新しい本を読み始める。
カズオ・イシグロの”Never Let Me Go”
京都に住んでいた頃に日本語訳で読んだはず。邦題は『わたしを離さないで』。
懐かしいと思って購入したけれど、読み始めてすぐに病院で読むには向いてないかもと気づく。
ストーリーを細かく覚えてないけれど、たぶん後半つらくなる。
あと、イギリス英語だった！当然そうなのだけれど意識していなかった。
文章は第一人称過去形の平易で読みやすいけれど、時々知らない単語が出てくる。
言い回しやセリフが、アメリカ英語に慣れたわたしには新鮮だったり。
頭の中でイギリス訛りで再生したりして遊んだ。

The work went smoothly.
So did my reading.
It was still in the part of childhood, so it wasn’t too sad, but the sadness is always there.
仕事は順調に進み、読書も。
まだ子供時代のパートだから、そこまでつらくないけれど、水面下にずっと悲しみがある。

Today was slowest day in a while.
I could read a lot.
I believe that I read this story in Japanese long time ago, but I don’t remember much.
It’s full of complicated feelings and many small interaction of each other.
I am also person who notices every little thing, but this book shows there are so many of them, all the time.
It might be because of the character’s age, I can feel their anxiety of being teenagers.
ここ最近でいちばん患者さんの少ない日だった。
読書が捗る。
それにしても、ぜんぜん覚えていない。
ほんとうに読んだのだっけ。でも文庫本の表紙がとても印象に残っているからたぶん読んだと思う。
いろんな細かい気持ちの説明があり、会話の中でこんなにたくさんのことをやりとりしているんだなって改めて気づく。
わたしもどちらかというとささいなことに気づく方なので、こんなに言語化されると、安心のような、気疲れするような気持ち。
10代特有の不安さも、もちろんあるだろうけれど。

I still managed to read my book.
It finally get the part where the main character becoming the carer.
The very first part of this chapter, it says, “For the most part being a carer’s suited me fine. You could even say it’s brought the best out of me. But some people just aren’t cut out for it, and for them the ewhole thing becomes a real struggle.”
This makes lots of sense for me now.
I know all jobs has certain things like this, but, carer is really not for everyone.
バタバタしつつも本は読めた。
ついに最後の章、主人公がケアラーになっていくところ。
章の最初の文、「わたしはケアラーに向いていたし、わたしという人間の一番良い部分を引き出してくれたとさえ言えると思う。でもこの仕事が向いていない人にとっては、すべてが苦痛となった」には今この仕事を始めてから強く肯ける部分がある。
仕事はなんでも向き不向きがあるものだけれど。

We were done by 2, but it was too early to clean up.
So we just did whatever we want.
I kept reading to almost the end.
I thought I might finish it, but then it got lots heavier, so I didn’t.
Also realized that many things which I didn’t when I read first.
2時にはもう作業は終わっていたけれど、片付けて引き上げるには早すぎて、みんなそれぞれにしたいことをする。
わたしは本を読み終わるかな、と思ったけれど、最後の方がとても濃いのでゆっくり読んだ。
以前読んだときはきっと気づかなかったことにも気づく。
わー、これは。
思ったより何重にもいろんなテーマが入っている。
