We did online training, and also I could start my new book.
Miranda July’s “All Four”
I saw her interview on daily show, and it was so interesting.
This book is about a woman who’s in beginning of her menopause.
I need to know about that too.
Since the fist
Very first few sentences was already interesting.


予定はそんなに詰まっておらず、会社から送られてきたオンライントレーニングなどをして過ごす。
新しい本も開けた。
ミランダ·ジュライの新刊、”All Four” 
先日インタビューを見かけて、更年期に差し掛かった女性の話と聞いて思わず注文。
わたしはまだ予兆の予兆くらいしかないけれど、先の見えなさ、例の少なさは感じているので、楽しみ。
最初の数行から楽しくて、ワクワクした。
ペーパーブックが出るまで待たなかったから大きいけど、たまにはいいや。

We could go for a walk, and I could read my book.
The main character will do a cross country trip.
From west to east, the opposite from what we did.
And she’ll drive by herself.
Now they are preparing for the trip, and it reminded me a lot about our trip.

お昼に散歩にも行けたし、読書もできた。
どうも車でアメリカ横断の旅に出るようだ。
わたしたちがしたのとは反対に、西から東へ。
でもひとりで。
思い出が揺り動かされるようで楽しい。

I could read my book.
It was supposed to a story about road trip, but she stayed a little town which she stopped for the first time.
I knew this author wouldn’t tell normal road trip story, but it was way too early to turn. I was very excited.
How do you explain your not-normal behavior.
This is something I was scared when I was little.
This book pushes all those small buttons which I knew existed but didn’t know how to address.

読書も少し進める。
ロードトリップの話だったのに、最初に停まった町で全く違う展開になる。
この作者だから、もちろんそのまま進むはずはなかったけれど、こんなに早く舵を切るなんて、とワクワクする。
まだ10％くらいしか読んでないけれど、もう終わってほしくない。
いわゆる常識から外れた行動を他人にどう説明するのか、これはわたしが子供の時、いちばん怖いことだった。
なんだかそういう、確かにあるけれど誰も言わないから忘れてしまっている感情のボタンをあちこち押してくれるような話。

For some reason I couldn’t concentrate on reading.
Well, that’s ok.

この二日はなんとなく読書に集中できなかった。
ミッドライフクライシスの場面だったからだろうか。
まぁいいや、そういう時もある。

I could read a little.
There was a scene that the main character tries to convince herself to go back to normal life.
And for some reason, it was so real.
I guess all of us has that moment of realization.

読書は少し。
一連の奇妙な行動から、目を覚まして帰ろうとする場面がやけにリアルだった。
結局帰らないのだけど、「わたし何をしてたんだろう」と思う時の、頭の中の声が細かく描かれている。

I could read a lot today.
It’s getting faster, and but I know it won’t stay the same.
I want to know what’s going to happen, but at the same time, I don’t want to finish.

今日は結構読書が進んだ。
一旦戻りかけたものの、その後は一気に突っ込んでいく。
後半が気になる、早く読みたいけれど、この物語が終わってしまうのがさみしい。
まだ半分も読んでいないけれど。

I could read a lot.
It was about perimenopause, and I am not too far from that, it was really interesting.
The main character asked around mainly to the elderly women, but no one gives her good enough answer.
After beating one wave, reality slaps her face.
Including some fantasy, I felt it was really realistic.

読書は捗った。
プレ更年期のことがたくさん出てきて、他人事ではないので、興味深く読む。
年配の女性、両親にまで聞いて回るところがなんだかすごい。
ひとつ乗り越えたと思ったら、現実が突きつけられるところも。
ファンタジーみたいな現実と、シビアな現実、両方あるなぁと思いながら読んだ。

I could read a lot.

It’s getting really close to the end.
Now it’s about marriage and partnership.
And I found that the small episode from the beginning now makes sense.
In the book it was a half year ago, and as I read only two days a week, it kinda help me grasp the time.

読書も進む。
なんだかもう締めに向かっている感じがすごい。
話は結婚、パートナーシップにシフトしていく。
ここで冒頭のエピソードが回収されて、ああーとなる。
週に2日ずつ読んでいるから、ストーリーの中では半年前の出来事だけど、一気読みするよりは時間の経過が掴みやすかった。

I could read too.
The fear of perimenopause became hope.
It was a great feeling.


読書も進んだ。
更年期のことが、不安から、解放になっていく。
この変化はとても励まされるものだった。

I was still tired, and moved slow.
I finished Miranda July’s book.
Before writing the log, I need to re read the New Yorker article.

その後もなんだか体が重く、少しずつ、しようと思っていたことをこなしていく。
休みを多めにとって、昨日数ページのところで終わってしまったミランダ・ジュライの本を最後まで読む。
最後まで読めてなんだかほっとした。
読書ログを書く前に、ニューヨーカーのインタビュー記事を読み返している。
