yuko's diary 8/3/26

Monday.

We slept till almost 7.

I woke up to cat’s meowing, and that was about it.

We packed our things and told them to leave.

Unless anything happens again, we will go home.

They told us to call and will keep us in the system until we decide.

It was scary to see where the fire was.

We were nervous.

On the way, we saw firefighters fighting 150 yards from highway.

There is a house nearby.

All those jets and helicopters are busy working on the other fires.

The firefighters are working with bulldozers and concentrate on structures.

We saw the mountain burnt when we got to the town.

It was close.

But the town is fine.

No ashes and the air is actually better than Omak.

Nothing had happened to our house.

I felt little weird but I remember the Tsunami memorial statue and the phrase.

“Even if you evacuate 100 times and tsunami didn’t reach 100 times, make sure you evacuate on 101st time”

Definitely better safe than sorry.

We kept almost all stuff in the car, except important documents.

It was good experience, now we know what we need in emergency.

I watered my garden.

Everything was fine.

It is more resilient than I thought.

I cooked chicken we bought on Saturday.

With tomato sauce pasta.

When Dan leaving to work, I felt little scared.

He said he’ll be back if anything happens.

There are so many things to do at home.

I did three loads of laundry.

I made granola, and tried new recipe for quick bread.

Made carrots and beets fermented pickles.

I went out to water the garden in the evening.

You can see the smoke still going up strong over the mountain.

It’s just not coming this way now, and it’s still very active.

I’m thinking about all people who lost house.

I did my workout. Felt weird to do my routine.

Took bath and then ate red cabbage salad.

Dan came home, and that also felt different.

We talked while and went to bed.

Sleeping in our bed is the best.
