Wednesday.
I’m off work today.
Most of the vegetables were fine despite the heat, but indigo leaves were damaged.
They might still come back as they are very strong.
I watered the pots too.
Since last night, the smoke was all over the valley.
It doesn't smell, but everything looks foggy.
I stayed inside, shutting the windows.
No laundry.
I opened the new computer and started the settings.
Today I just needed to get started.
I wrote 4 letters using the postcards I dyed with indigo leaves.
It turned out many shades of green.
Then I prepared seeds planting for trees.
I also planted cherry from Betty and cold hardy apricot from farmer’s market.
Growing tree from seeds doesn't always work, and takes long time, but still rewarding.
Of all seeds I planted last few years, 10 or so trees are growing slowly, but still.
I made rice, and cooked all vegetables I harvested the other day.
Sweet miso sauce.
It was salty and sweet.
Dan came home saying “pizza delivery!”
He found this pizza place near work which he likes.
So we ate our own food today.
Saige came to visit.
Her hair around the neck was cut short weirdly.
We guess she stuck with some sticky thing and they had to cut out.
Quail mom hasn’t come back to the nest.
Some of eggs are broken.
Maybe she finally gave up.
It was still white outside.
And we couldn’t open the window.
We put the AC on and stayed inside.
With new computer, we watched the final season of “Reservation Dogs”
Which I love.
I want it to last, but I already watched 2 episodes.
So I am back to write this journal on the computer.
Writing on the phone, computer, and hand-writing, all feel different.
I guess writing itself would altered too.
水曜日、お休みの日。
今日も暑くなるのでしっかり水やり。
野菜はけっこう大丈夫だったのでほっとしたけれど、藍の葉っぱが半分ほどやられていた。
でも藍はとても強いから戻ってきてくれるだろう。
植木鉢にも忘れずにしっかり水やり。
昨日の夜から、山火事の煙がすごい。
匂いはしないけれど、もやがかかっているよう。
窓を閉めて家の中で過ごす。
洗濯もパス。
昨日届いた新しいパソコンの設定をしていく。
今日はとりあえず使えるようになったら上出来。
書こうと思っていた手紙に手をつける。4通。
藍で染めたポストカードを使ってみた。
緑がいろんな層になっていて不思議な色。
それから、木の種を植える。
植えるといっても、湿らしたキッチンペーパーに挟んで冷蔵庫に入れたりする、植える準備。
ベティがくれた甘いチェリーと、ファーマーズマーケットで購入した霜に強いアプリコットも、種を取っておいたので、殻をトンカチで割り、杏仁を取り出して植えてみる。
木を種から育てるのは、時間はかかるのに育たないことも多いしで、
これまでに外に植えた中で、かろうじて育っているのは10本くらい。
それでもやっぱりやりがいがあると思う。
購入した苗を植樹する方が何倍も早いし、確実だし、これはこれで続けるけれど。
ご飯を炊いて、先日収穫した野菜で肉味噌炒め。
お肉の代わりに豆腐を使う。
シシトウ、ナス、スィートペッパー。
甘辛で美味しくできた。
と、『ピザの配達でーす』と夫がピザの箱を持って帰宅。
最近職場の近くにピザ屋さんを見つけて喜んでいたのだった。
今日はそれぞれの晩ごはんになった。
セージが遊びに来ていた。
首の周りが変なふうに刈られている？
ハエトリ紙か何かひっつけて切られたんじゃない？と夫。
そうかも。
ウズラママは一昨日くらいから巣を空けたままだ。
卵もいくつか割れている。
あー、ついに諦めてしまったのかな。残念。
自然は厳しいな。
外はまだ白いもやのまま。
部屋の温度が下がらないけれど仕方ない。
エアコンを入れて大人しく過ごす。
パソコンが来たので、大好きなシリーズの新しいシーズンを見る。
“Reservations Dogs”
製作陣も、キャラクターも、俳優もみんなIndigenous の、シリーズ。
これで最後のシーズンだから少しずつ、と思いつつ2話見てしまった。
今日からまたパソコンで日記を書きます。
キーボードで打つのと、携帯で打つのとでは違う文章になる気がする。
どう違うのかわからないけれど、手書きの手紙ともまた違う。
おもしろいなぁ。
