yuko's diary 7/31/26

Friday.

I overslept little and watered the garden.

When I was done, Dan was already getting ready to go to lake.

We left house little before 11.

Off to the lost lake.

The smoke was little less intense on the mountain.

There was nobody in the lake and we swam first.

The water was colder than last time, although the temperature is higher.

It was nice.

We hugged in the water and that was really special.

We played catch, and ate sandwiches that Dan made.

There were people with dogs, and kids swimming.

Peaceful day.

We stayed just over two hours.

Close to the town, there is a farm stand, and we stopped there.

The farmer was there to replace the produce and he asked what we want.

We got fresh beets, carrots, onion, and zucchini.

I only had ten dollars and he didn’t mind.

We met him at the event in community center.

Back home, I cleaned all vegetables, and put carrots and beets in fridge.

Then cooked carrots leaves.

And beets leaves and zucchini together.

It was really good.

Dan made quesadillas.

We had a nap and took it easy in the afternoon.

Then the news came in saying that the fire can come to our way tomorrow.

We got our go bag out and went to get gas.

This is the first time we had to do this since we moved here.

We did everything we can, and went to bed.

金曜日。

少し寝坊して水やり。

終えて戻ると、夫がデイキャンプの準備をしてくれていた。

着替えて、11時前に出発。いつものロストレイクへ。

山の上は少し煙もまし。

湖には誰もいなくて、まずひと泳ぎ。

前回よりも気温は高いはずなのに、水温が下がっていてびっくりした。

でも気持ちいい。

水の中で夫とハグすると、すごくつながっていると思う。特別な感じがした。

キャッチボールして、持参したサンドイッチを食べて、のんびりする。

犬連れの人たちがいたり、子供達が向こうで泳いでいたりして、平和。

2時間くらいで引き上げる。

町までもう少しのところで、小さなファームの無人の野菜スタンドがあって、止まってみる。

ちょうど入れ替えに出てきた人と話して、採れたての野菜を少しいただけることに。

ビーツ、ニンジン、タマネギ、ズッキーニ。

値段はこちらが決めていいとのことで、お財布に入っていた10ドルを払う。

オーガニックの野菜で、安すぎるくらい。

オーバーオールの似合う彼の名前は、マイカ。

コミュニティセンターのフェアで一緒になったことがある。

帰宅してすぐに、ビーツ、ニンジンをきれいに洗って、冷蔵庫へ。

葉っぱもきれいに洗う。

ニンジンの葉はふりかけに。ビーツの葉とズッキーニをニンニクソースで炒め煮にした。

とってもおいしい。

夫がつくってくれたケーサディーヤと一緒にいただいた。

その後はお昼寝してのんびりする。

夜、川の向こうの火事がどうもこちらに向かいそうだと連絡が入る。

避難用の荷物を取り出してきて点検。

ガソリンも補給しにいく。

ここまで本格的な避難準備をするのは、ここに越してきて初めて。

とりあえずできることをして、夜はしっかり眠った。
