Sunday.
After watering and having breakfast, we started painting the primer.
I guess this is the fist time for me to paint outside wall.
Dan told me how to use the brush properly.
Try not to get paint on the bottom of brush.
Wash it frequently.
It was fun to work together while listening the music.
We did until the sun hits us.
There were many books my grandpa bought for us grandkids, and one of them were “Oh, Were They Ever Happy!” by Peter Spier.
3 kids decided to paint the house while their parents are away.
And they painted everything including cat and dog and themselves so colorful.
The story ended when they satisfyingly look at the house thinking how happy their parents would be.
That was my primary image of painting house.
I don’t know why we don’t paint house in Japan.
We stayed inside whole afternoon.
I slept so deep, I couldn’t wake up.
Maybe for 3 hours I slept.
We went out to fight with the same roots in the evening.
One of them is complietly dry and dead.
So we dug it out.
Saige came and watch us work.
Went to supermarket.
A lady was asking where I bought my lommper.
I told her in Japan.
Dan bought his favorite frozen pizza and we ate for dinner.
We went back to painting around 8pm and painted for one hour.
It was still warm outside.
A fun Sunday.
日曜日。
水やり後、さっと朝食。
それから夫と一緒に下地塗り。
夫はペンキ塗りになれているので、コツを教えてもらいながら。
わたしはローラーで室内を塗ったことはあるけど、外壁は初めてかも。
ブラシの根本にペンキが入らないようにしながら塗る。
こまめに洗う。
ブラシを細かく何度も押し付けるようにしてでこぼこを埋める、など。
音楽を聴きながら、ふたりでやるととても楽しかった。
太陽が出てきて暑くなるまで、3分の1ほどできただろうか。
祖父が子供の頃に買ってくれたたくさんの絵本の中のひとつに、『きっと みんな よろこぶよ!』（ピーター・スピアー＝著、松川真弓＝訳）というのがあって、
留守番をしている3兄妹が、家のペンキ塗りをしようと思いついて、
家の外もうちも、犬も猫も、兄妹たち自身も、ものすごくカラフルなしあがりになる絵本。
こんなに素敵になって、きっとみんなよろこぶよ！というところで終わっているので、両親の反応が描かれていないところがみそ。
これが長いことわたしのペンキ塗りのイメージだった。
そういえば日本ではあまりペンキ塗りを自分たちですることはないなぁ。なんだでだろう。
午後はまた部屋に篭る。
昨日の残り物を食べた後、ぐうっとしっかり眠った。
起きようとしても眠りに引き戻されてしまう、こんな眠いのはひさしぶり。
無理せずに眠れるだけ眠った。
夕方外に出て、昨日と同じ根っこともうすこし格闘。
よく見ると、4つほど元気な根っこと、ひとつ枯れている根っこが。
枯れているのは、シャベルで掘り返すと簡単にばらばらになった。
乾いてからからなのが手で触るとわかるくらい。
ぜんぶ掘り返して、手で割ってみた。
すごくおもしろい形をしている。流木みたい。
セージが来て横で座って見ていた。
スーパーへ買い出しに。
レジのところで、そのロンパースかわいいね、どこで買ったの？と聞かれて、
日本です、と答える。
このあたりで見かけないはずだわ！と言っていた。
買ってきた冷凍ピザを焼いて晩ご飯。
8時過ぎにもう一度外へ出てペンキ塗り。
まだほんのり暑い。
1時間ほどやって終了～。
なんとも楽しいいちにちだった。
