Saturday.
We decided to go to shopping first.
Made a list, and off to Midway.
There were so many families on the street.
It’s Memorial Day weekend.
We got drywall and stuff we need to finishing the house.
Then I wrote my journal.
Went outside, weeding little bit while thinking.
What do I want to do with this space?
I made the first tomato support with bamboo pole.
I tied them with garden twine.
It was easier than I expected, but not that strong...
I might need to add more bamboo.
Also I need five more...
well, I have time. Tomatoes are not that tall yet.
Dan went to get food for Memorial Day which is BBQ holiday.
He said we’ll eat BBQ whole weekend.
Today he made hotdog.
He made giardiniera and it was so good.
We also had garden salad topped with strawberries.
We stayed outside until it got dark.
There were some event going over the hill.
This was Founder’s weekend of Tonasket, too.
We read Dan’s poetry and writing.
While I was knitting my socks.
I asked him when and why he started writing.
When he was 12 or so, he saw a lot of note pads in the store, and he was wondering what do people write on them.
I love those stories.
Then for some reason, we started googling every sort of stuff.
What do AM and PM stand for?
Why pound is “lbs”?
Why is the dollar sign an S?
You should google them too.
今日は起きてすぐ、いろいろ買い出しにいくことになった。
リストをつくって、外に出ると、三連休で賑わっている。
月曜日がメモリアルデーなのだった。
石膏ボードや、その他作業に必要なものを買い込んで帰宅。
遅くなったけれど日記をつける。
それから外へ。
草引きをしながらいろいろ考えた。
わたしのお庭はどういうふうにしていきたいかな。
トマトの支柱をつくる。
細い竹を組み合わせて、麻紐で縛っていくのだけど、
思ったよりも簡単だった。
ただ、これで強度が足りるのかはなぞ。
必要に応じて横棒を増やしていけばいいかな。
あと５つ、つくらないといけないのだけど、まだそこまで育ってないし、ゆっくりやる。
夫はメモリアルデーに張り切って、買い出しにいった。
３日間バーベキューをする！とのこと。
今日は、ホットドッグとバンズを外で焼いて、室内でジャルデネラという、野菜のピクルス風のものを作っていた。
赤と緑のパプリカの角切りを炒めて、きゅうりのピクルスを混ぜたもの。これがおいしかった～。
お庭の緑のサラダ、イチゴ入り、も。
その後も、外でのんびりしたり、ビールを飲みながらしゃべったりして祝日っぽい、楽しいゆうべだった。
丘の向こうで、なにかイベントをしているらしく、賑わう声が聞こえてくる。
そういえば、今週末はトナスケットの創始者の記念日らしい。
毛糸が届いたので、夏用の靴下を編み始めた。
ウールと竹とコットン入りの糸を合わせる。
テーブルで編みながら、夫の詩を読んだり。
どうして書くようになったの？と聞くと、
１２歳くらいのとき、お店でノートパッドがずらりと並んでいるのを見て、みんな、これにいったい何を書いているんだろう、と気になったのがきっかけらしい。
こういう話はいつもたのしい。
そのあとはなぜかトリビア大会みたいになった。
AM、PMはなんの略？重さの単位、パウンドをlbsと書くのはなぜ？米ドルのマークはなぜSなのか？
前者ふたつはラテン語が由来。
最後のひとつはなんと、スペイン通貨のペソスのPとSがもとになっているらしい。Pが縦線。ドル関係ないやん。
夜更かしはたのしい。
