yuko's diary 5/13/26

Wednesday.

I went for work.

It wasn’t as busy as yesterday.

An ER nurse asked us to get their knee scanned.

When we went to get them, and asked “who wants MRI?”

Many people said “me!”

It’s a tough job.

We were done early, but it was raining outside.

I couldn’t go for a walk, but rain is important.

So I read my book.

It’s getting better and better.

The twelve characters are interconnected in many ways.

And they all going to same powwow.

It’s well written and dynamic, and hard to believe this is his debut.

I feel like authors like him, Ocean Vuong, and Kaveh Akbar are similar in a way.

They all stand where they are from, and dig deep and then see the world.

And that world is something unchanging, ageless.

I like them very much.

I was done by 4, but the rain didn’t stop so my colleague gave me a ride.

I ate quick dinner and did my workout.

I was reading my book but was too sleepy.

Went to bed by 9:30.

水曜日。

今日も仕事へ。

ひさしぶりに落ち着いたスケジュール。

ERの看護師さんが、膝のMRIをしてほしいと連絡が入り、迎えにいく。

ナースステーションでMRI希望の方は？と聞くと、わたしも、わたしもと声が上がる。

タフな仕事だもんね。

午後早めに全て終わって、でも外は雨。

歩きに出られないけれど、雨はうれしいから、おとなしく読書。

どんどんおもしろくなってきた。

12人の登場人物があちこちで繋がっていて、powwow（Indigenous の人たちの集会）に向かって小川が繋がって大きな川になるように流れていく。

これがデビュー作。

Ocean Vuong、Kaveh Akbar に通じる、出自を軸にして深く掘り下げ、そこから描く景色が普遍的なものになっているような作家だと思う。

すごく、本来の意味でアメリカ的。

4時に上がったけれど、雨がやまないので、同僚に送ってもらって帰宅。

あるものでさっと晩ごはんにして、ワークアウト。

その後本を読んでいたけれど、眠くて眠くて、9時半には寝たと思う。
