yuko's diary 4/27/26

Monday.

It was sunny morning, but turned cloudy later.

I started shokupan.

I went out to water the garden.

It’s slow, but things are starting to grow.

I harvested spinach and lettuce.

The lunch was wonton bowl.

With red cabbage and celery salad, broccoli, and fresh baby spinach.

The lettuce became Dan’s lunch.

After he left for work, I was busy.

I sow some more seeds outside, and potted up eggplants.

And started two kinds of tomato in winter sowing box.

I also started baking for the show.

Today I baked granola.

In the evening, I decided to transplant half of asparagus seedlings.

I expected no more frost this year, but it might be risky.


I ate leftover for dinner.

Then baked some more.

I did my workout.

And took bath, and that’s it.

It’s been busy for while, one after another, I have things to do.

Maybe it means that it is spring.

I finished my book.

The epilogue was written by the author and reader understand why Gwangju Uprising means a lot to her.

I’m still not sure about the English title. I prefer Japanese one.

The boy is the most important element of this story.

I’ve never read anything which talks about “terrible news” and what is really happening there, and what happened after decades after to those lives still goes on.

It was really good.

月曜日。

今日もいい天気だったけれど、午後は曇り。

食パンを仕込む。

お庭に出て水やり。

少しずつだけど、育ってくれているのがうれしい。

ほうれん草とレタスを収穫。

お昼はワンタン丼。

紫キャベツとセロリのナムル、ブロッコリーの甘酢炒め、とれたてのほうれん草付き。

レタスは夫のサンドイッチに。

夫を見送って、そこから忙しかった。

追加の種を植えて、ナスの鉢上げ。

今年はトマト2種類をウィンターソウイングで発芽させてみる。

フェアに持っていくグラノーラも焼き始める。

いつもより計量や温度に気を使って、丁寧に。

夕方、思いついてアスパラガスの苗の植え替え。

もう霜は降りないんじゃないかと予想して、半分だけ植えてみたけれど、かけかもしれない。

お昼の残りで晩ごはん。

その後もグラノーラを焼いて、食パンを焼いてと忙しい。

ワークアウトしてお風呂につかり、ようやく落ち着いた。

この頃、次から次へといつも何かあって空白がない。

春だからかな。

寝る前に本を読み終える。

エピローグは作者の視点で描かれていて、光州事件との関係がここでわかる。

英語のタイトル、意味はわかるけれど、やっぱり原作に近い方がいいんじゃないかなと思う。

6章を貫く少年の姿が、この物語の要だと思うから。

ニュースで見る「酷い事件」の、そこで本当に起きていること、それから特にその後何十年も続く人々の人生について、こんなにじっくり描いてあるものは初めて読んだ。

とてもよかった。
