It was cloudy morning.
Coffee and raisin bran.
I was worried about those fruit trees I planted in hurry last night,
but they look just fine.
They are so cute.
I transplanted the last pot of herbs.
One of seedling I have no idea, might be sunflower?
Then I made furrows in the second garden.
4 rows x 2, and the narrow one in the south end.
The area is so sandy and rocky.
It is far from the creek though... hm
Then I planted onion sets I received yesterday.
Onion’s life cycle is 2 years.
First year they grow from seeds, and the second year, they make seeds.
So those sets would be already second year, which means it might bolt quickly and bloom.
Some says that you should plant seeds instead sets.
I am planting both this year.
In the worst case scenario, I can get onion or seeds, so no problem.
But I leaned that some onion doesn’t last long, meaning not for storage.
Fortunately, mine was good. Phew.
First, I measured and make mark on every foot.
I made 16 rows.
Then I found this 4 inches branch, and used it for measuring in between the sets.
I could put 4 or 5 sets in a row.
So maybe 70 onions in total.
Dan came to help me.
We left the top of the head out of the soil.
It is very easy.
Watering them, and that’s it.
We had sandwiches from co-op.
And we went out to work on the main garden’s expansion.
I thought we have still time, and we do, but it’s better if we finish it before it gets hot.
We had relaxing night.

くもりの朝。
コーヒーとレーズンブラン。
昨日、最後にばばっと終わらせた果樹たちが大丈夫かと思ったけれど、
元気そうだった。
どれもかわいらしいなぁ。
今日はハーブの最後の鉢を植えかえてしまう。
ひとつ、なんの芽か分からないのがあったのだけど、お庭の端っこに植えておいた。
ひまわりかも？
二つ目のお庭の畝をつくる。
４列をふたつ、それから南の端っこに細いのをひとつ。
ここにはお花を植えようかな。
そのあたりは小石が多くて、砂っぽい。
小川からかなり離れているのに不思議だな。
それから、昨日届いたタマネギの球根を植える。
タマネギは２年サイクルの植物で、
種から育ったものを次の年にもう一度植えると花が咲き、種ができるそう。
球根は２年目のことが多いから、すぐに塔が立って花が咲いてしまう可能性がたかく、
種から始める方を推奨している人も多いみたい。
わたしは両方やってみるんだけど、どちらにしてもタマネギか種がとれるなら、いい結果しかないと思う。
後で調べて分かったんだけど、タマネギは保存に向くのと向かない種類がはっきりわかれているみたい。
植えたのは保存に強いものだったみたいで、ほっ。
まずメジャーを持ってきて、１フィートごとに列の目安をつける。
１６列。
それからちょうど４インチの木の枝を見つけてきて、それを間隔の物差しにする。
１列に４、５個植えられたから、たぶん７０個。
ちょうどぴったりぜんぶの球根を使えた。
夫も出てきて、手伝ってくれる。
芽を少しだけ出したまま、土を被せるだけ。すごい簡単だ。
水をやって、おわり。
夫が買ってきてくれたサンドイッチを食べて、すこし休憩する。
その後また外に出て、後回しになっている、メインのお庭の拡張をふたりで進めた。
ここは６月くらいまでにできればいいやーと思っていたけれど、
暑くなる前にやってしまった方がいいだろう。
そのあとはもうゆっくりした。
夜は”Killing Eve”というシリーズを初めて見る。
