yuko's diary 12/4/25

Thursday.

I worked at Brewster hospital.

We left house at 6.

It was cloudy and cold day.

We had no patient in the morning but it was too cold to go for a walk.

We had this one Spanish speaker in the afternoon.

I introduced myself and said that I’m Japanese.

He said “tomodachi!”

That threw me off, and so he added “amigo?”

It’s nice one Japanese word to remember.

I was done by 3 and took bus.

There was this Indigenous lady who was in the bus this morning with us.

While waiting for second bus, I went to the library.

I read comic book about Okinawan war.

It was hard to read in English but it was a good book.

I took second bus and listened to the passenger’s talk.

Back home, I made myself salad and ate quick dinner.

I did my workout and jumping rope.

I made fire and waited for Dan to come home.

We stayed late talking a lot.

Tomorrow is the weekend!

木曜日。

今日はブリュースターでの仕事。

6時過ぎに家を出る。

今日は曇っていて寒い。

朝はとても暇で、同僚とおしゃべりして過ごす。

寒すぎて歩きにも出られない。

午後、スペイン語オンリーの患者さんがいらしたから、自己紹介して、「日本人です」という。

「トモダチ！」と言い返されてびっくりして上手く返事できなかったら、「Amigo?」と確認される。

ひとつだけ知っている日本語が友達っていいな。

3時に上がってバスに乗りこむ。

朝も一緒だったIndigenousの人とおしゃべりする。

次のバスを待つ間図書館へ。

沖縄の戦争を描いた漫画があって読む。

英語だから言葉のかんじがわからないけれど、途中で挟まっていた海への道の写真にぐっとくる。

5時過ぎのバスで家へ。

今日は乗客のおしゃべりを聞いて過ごした。

帰宅し、スプラウトや昨日のヒヨコ豆でサラダをつくる。

さっと食べて、ワークアウト。

縄跳びもする。

暖炉に火を入れて夫を待つ。

夫のクリスマスプレゼントにするオーナメントをつくる。

もう後少しで出来上がる。

夫が帰宅し、たくさんおしゃべりして夜更かしした。

明日はお休みなのがうれしい。
