Christmas Eve.
It was snowing lightly.
Coffee.
The water pipe was working, but not draining.
Dan worked hard, tried everything to make it work.
We went to Ace again to get things to fix.
Then we stopped at the supermarket next door, and there he is.
Matt who is called Mr. Tonasket was wearing crazy costume.
I always wonder where he gets those.
He is from upstate NY, but is loved here and there’s his original stickers too.
The post office was closed.
I need to send them next week.
Back home, I did laundry.
And brought gifts to Debi’s.
Dan was working on the pipe.
We decided to wait a little.
He made omelet, and we had it with toast.
Then we had relaxing afternoon.
We opened the wine and had snacks in my bowls.
I lit the candle on “wise guys.” that is how Dan’s mom called wise men.
Then we watched “Christmas story.”
It’s funny how much I forgot about it.
Dan told me he and his brother and sister would go to see the Santa.
And he’d cry on his knee.
The sink started working again.
Oh good.
Now we can cook easily tomorrow.
クリスマス・イブ。
軽く雪が降っている。
コーヒー。
キッチンの水道は解凍したけれど、シンクがまだ詰まっている。
夫が午前中かけていろいろ試し、溜まった水は外に抜けたけれど、完全にはとおっていない。
またホームセンターに買い出し。
ついでに隣のスーパーにも。
ここのスーパーには名物の店員さんがいて、いつもすごい衣装をきている。
秋に事故に遭ってから、しばらく見かけなかったけれど、今日はまたさすがな衣装だった。
Merry Christmas が一面に書かれた包装紙みたいなスーツと、仕掛けでピコピコ動くサンタのキャップ。
ベストにたくさんついているバッジも、尖った白い革靴も完璧。
NY州出身だけど、あんまりキャラが立つのでミスター・トナスケットと呼ばれている。
オリジナルのステッカーもある。（完売）
郵便局はしまっていて、発送は来週になりそう。
ざんねん。
帰って、わたしは洗濯。
デビーのところにギフトを持っていったり。
夫はシンクと格闘。
結果、暖かくなるまで待とう、となった。
オムレツを焼いてくれて、トーストと食べる。
後はゆっくりして過ごす。
クリスマスのライトもまた増量した。
各地で雪と寒波が大変なことになっているみたいと思ったら、
日本も雪が降っているのだな。
ここはマイナス8度くらいまで上がって、寒くないねと言い合っているじぶんたちがおかしかった。
夜は定番の『クリスマス・ストーリー』を見る。
デパートやショッピングモールにいるサンタに会いにいくのはアメリカの子供の恒例行事みたい。
楽しみにしていても、実際サンタの膝に乗ったら怖くて泣いてしまうのも。
夫も子供の頃怖くて泣いたと言っていた。
シンクは夕方ごろ、突然通った。
あらま、よかった。
これで明日の料理がやりやすくなる。
