The first day of Dan’s winter break.
We woke up slowly and had toast and coffee.
We went to shopping before the snow started.
We went Ace, two supermarkets and post office.
Right after back home, we packed orange and my card for our neighbors,
and walked to there.
We put one in the mail box, and brought one to the house which we got eggs from.
They had so many cute Christmas decorations and their cat was so friendly.
They invited us in, and we talked a little bit.
Whole thing was a scene from a movie.
Debi wasn’t home
Dan made lunch.
Eggs, ham, and cabbage.
And while we’re having nap, we got a package from my mom.
She sent us some socks and shirts.
I opened them and washed.
I started packing my ceramic pieces.
One package for Japan, two goes domestic.
I am professional packer, but it still scares me.
I made ramen with lots of greens.
Saw many Japanese Christmas celebrations on social media.
They are very strict about when they’d say Merry Christmas to each other.
They are very serious when they can say certain greetings and when they cannot.
It is really different from what people do in here and there.
夫の休暇初日。
のんびり起きて、コーヒーとトースト。
午後から雪かも、ということだったので、午前中に買い出し。
スーパー2つ、ホームセンター、郵便局と回っていろいろ買い込んだ。
帰ってすぐ、ご近所さんに配るカードと、オレンジを紙袋に詰めて出かける。
郵便箱に入るものは入れて入らないものは家まで持っていく。
2軒隣のジェリーさんのものは入った。
タマゴをくれるノーナとアールさんのところは歩いて持っていくことに。
玄関先で挨拶して終わるつもりが、中に迎え入れてくれた。
家の中はかわいらしいクリスマスの飾りでいっぱい。
すごくひとなつこいネコがいて、挨拶してくれる。
ソファの上にアルミホイルが敷いてあって、ネコが乗らないように、だって。
座ってちょっとおしゃべり。
もしまたタマゴが余ったら、夫の仕事先に寄付してもいいかもというと喜んでいた。
なんだか映画ひと場面のようだったね、と話しながら帰る。
デビーのおうちはだれもいないみたいだったので、明日にする。
夫がお昼をつくってくれる。目玉焼きとハム、キャベツも炒めてくれた。
その後はお昼寝。
寝ている間に配達があって、母から小包が届く。
無印に買い出しに行った時にわたしと夫の分も買ってきてくれた。
綿のシャツ、スパッツ、靴下など。
すぐに開けて、水通しする。
郵便局で買ってきた段ボール箱に、作品を梱包していく。
国内で2つ、日本に1つ送る予定。
陶器の梱包はずっと本職だったので得意だけれど、
いつもびっくりするくらい嵩が増す。でも仕方ない。
夜はわたしがラーメンをつくる。ブロッコリー、ケール、ズッキーニと、あった野菜をとにかく炒めて載せたらけっこうおいしかった。キムチもたっぷり。
日本ではクリスマスでにぎやかみたいだった。
この、イブになるまで待って、イブになったらきっちりとメリークリスマス！をやるところがとても日本ぽいと思う。
ここでは11月から1月初めくらいまでずっとメリークリスマスと言っている気がする。
なんならハッピーニューイヤーもずっと言っている。
26日にはもう片付けるなんて、季節にとても敏感な日本の文化らしい。
