yuko's diary 12/15/23

Friday.

Dan worked half day.

I did laundry of bed sheets.

Had miso soup and rice for breakfast.

Cleaned the room, and I got phone call about my appointment.

From there, I had to talk to many people to figure out.

By 2 or 3pm, I got actual appointment. Phew.

Talking to people over phone in English is still hard.

But I can ask them to spell out, or send me written notes, or ask questions.

I’m getting better on this.

While working on that, I organized my closet.

Let old ones go and made some space.

Then I went outside to make a wreath.

I used vine from the creek for structure, and added small branches.

I also made a swag.

Collected colorful materials from yard and creek.

White berries, bay leaves, thyme, lavender, blue spruce.

Adding them made wreath much better.

Dan came home before 3.

The sun was peaking through the thick cloud.

We decided to go to the local restaurant.

It’s been months since the last time.

We both had fried chicken sandwich.

Yum.

It was already dark when we came home, but it was only 5pm.

We had a relaxing night.

Dan fell asleep but woke up middle of the night.

金曜日。

夫は半日仕事へ。

わたしはシーツ類の洗濯。

残りのお味噌汁で朝ごはん。

部屋を片付けて一服していると、先日の検査関連の連絡。

そこからいろいろとやって、電話を待ったりしながら次の予定が決まったのは夕方だった。

こういうの、ようやくできるようになってきたと思う。

わからなかったり、聞き取れなかったら質問する。スペルを教えてもらう。

文字で書いたものをメールで送ってもらう、など。

英語で特に知らない人と電話するのはまだ苦手だけど、色々方法を覚えてきた。

合間に、古い靴下や下着の整理。

少しずつ入れ替える。

それから昨日の枝を水から引き上げて、リースを作る。

小川沿いで採ってきたツルを土台にして巻きつけていく。

余ったのでスワッグもつくった。

小川やお庭で柊みたいな赤い葉、オレゴングレープの葉を収穫してそれを足す。

名前のわからない白い実、ワイルドストロベリーの赤い葉、ラベンダーやタイム、大きなブルースプルースのゴム素材みたいな葉っぱ。

あちこちに刺して足すたびにいい感じになった。

身近にあるものでまとめたからかな。

夫は2時過ぎに帰宅。

太陽が雲の隙間から出ていて気持ちよかった。

今日はあまり寒くない。

しばし休んでから、久しぶりに町のレストランへ行くことにした。

チキンカツサンドとフライドポテト。

熱々のフライドポテト好きなのに、2ヶ月くらい食べてなかったな。

帰る頃にはもう真っ暗だけれど、まだ5時だったのでなんだか不思議だ。

その後はもう家でのんびりする。

夫は先に寝てしまったけれど、夜中起きていたようだった。
