Sunday.
I woke up slowly and had coffee, and yogurt.
I did some more laundry.
I walked to the market close to my parent house.
I got some stationary as souvenir and also bought battery for my grandpa’s camera, and mosquito repellent.
When I left, my mom just came to buy flower for visiting grave later.
So I went back with her.
It was so hot and humid.
While Dan and dad were watching world series, mom and I made flower bouquets.
Today’s lunch was curry and rice.
We all got into the car and went to a voting place.
For me to vote in Japan, I had to go to a certain place.
They have a list of all people from this district who registered as voting from outside of country.
They stamped my card and the list and let me vote.
They were so meticulous and serious. All people work here are.
I can’t stop thinking how stupid this election is, but I was also glad to be able to vote.
Then we went to the family grave.
We weren’t here when my grandma past away.
So I brought my jam as we have a nice memory about her and jam.
For the first time she spoke English to Dan, he gave her strawberry jam package from airline, and she said thank you.
We also went to my mom’s side of grave.
Back home, my brother and nephew were here.
We played a lot, and he’s getting used to us.
I walked to my middle school to escort my mom to vote.
I don’t remember much about this place.
We could hear brass band was practicing.
My nephew now let me hold him.
On the way to soba place, he kept saying “light!” “Red!”
While waiting for food, he played chopstick rest as train, and Dan made tunnel using paper back for chopsticks.
But he cannot stop looking at other kid’s elaborate firetruck.

日曜日。
のんびり起きて、コーヒー、ヨーグルト。
また洗濯をさせてもらう。
朝のうちに近くのスーパーへ歩いて行った。
本屋さんで文房具をお土産に買ったり、カメラの電池を買ったり、蚊対策の製品を買ったり。
帰りかけたところで母にバッタリあって、一緒にまた戻る。
お墓参りに行くので、お花をたくさん購入した。
日差しがジリジリとして、蒸し暑さと相まって最高に暑い。
夫と父がワールドシリーズを見ている間、母とお花のアレンジ。
買ってきたまま活けないのは元花屋の意地なのか、いろいろいいながら仏花を8つ作る。
お昼はカレー。
午後、みんなで車に乗り込んで出発。
まずはとある投票所へ。
わたしは在外選挙人として登録しているのだけど、一時帰国中は指定の場所で選挙できることになっている。
中に入ると空いていて、すごく丁重に対応していただいた。
この選挙区で在外選挙証明書を持っている人の名簿があり、それと証明書にハンコを押してもらう。
ちゃんと名前があることになんだか感動した。
こうやってみんな真面目に仕事してくれてるのに、在外選挙なんかさらに準備期間短い中大騒ぎだろうし、なのになんだろうこの選挙は。
それでも、投票できたことはうれしかった。
それから父方のお墓へ。
3年前に亡くなった祖母に挨拶する。
家族みんなに配っている、お庭のチェリーで作った、サワーチェリーのジャムをお供えした。
夫と最初に来たとき、朝食のジャムを切らしていて、夫が飛行機かどこかからもらってきたいちごジャムをあげると、初めて英語で”Thank you” と言ったという思い出があって、おばあちゃんと言えば、ジャムである。
それから母方のお墓にもお参りした。
両家が近くて便利。
帰宅すると弟と甥が来ていた。
しばし子守をする。
母が投票するのに付き合って、母校の中学校へ。
ここの記憶は薄い。
ブラスバンド部が演奏していた。
甥はだいぶ慣れてきて抱っこさせてくれるように。
みんなで蕎麦屋へ向かう間、車の中で、「信号！」「赤！」と繰り返していた。
お蕎麦を待つ間、お箸置きを電車に見立てて遊ぶので、夫が箸袋でトンネルを作ると楽しそうに遊んでいた。
斜め向こうにひとつ上の赤ちゃんが立派な消防車を持っているのが気になって仕方ない。
なんでこんなに車が好きなのかなー。おもしろ。
帰宅すると疲れてもうそれで終わり。
今日は蚊が出ませんように。
