Woke up 4 am.
Packed up the car and left home by 4:20.
The road was smooth, but we were worried about the deer jumping in front of us.
There were more cars than I thought it would.
We saw a coyote running in front of us.
The sun came up pretty late, around 7:20?
When we were driving in the mountain.
We also had rain... we don’t like driving in the rain and dark.
We had to be extra alert all the time and that made us so tired.
Anyway, it took us 5 hours, but I made it to the consulate around 9:40 just on time.
There were only few other voters at the voting place.
All staff are so nice and polite, but I couldn’t choose the supreme cort judges.. hmm
By 10:10, we were ready to go back.
It was up to Dan if we stay longer or not, and he wants to go back so we left immediately.
The highway in Seattle was not crowded, where’s everybody?
On the highway 2, Wenatchee river and trees, rocks were absolutely beautiful.
The best colored leaves I ever seen.
The sun came out little bit and it was magical.
We made it to home around 3pm. 10 hours trip! Wow.
Ate sandwiches and just rest in the bedroom whole afternoon.
Dan made me “i voted” sticker.
What a crazy wonderful day!
４時おき。
ぱっと着替えてつめて、４時２０分に出発。
道はスムーズだったけど、鹿の飛び出しにドキドキしていた。衝突事故はどうしても多いらしい。
思っていたより車が多い。みんな仕事にいくのだろうか。
コヨーテが一匹、目の前を横切った。一匹でよかった。
日の出は思ったより遅く、７時半くらい？
山の中を走っているときに薄ぼんやり明るくなっていった。
雨も降ったし、暗い中を運転するのは余計に気を張って疲れる。
５時間きっちりかかって到着。ちょうど投票が始まった頃だった。
投票所、混んでいるかと思ったけれど、数人だけ。スタッフさんのほうが多いくらい。
国民審査ができないことをしらなくて、訪ねたけど、今回はないんです、とだけ教えてもらった。うーん。
投票自体はスムーズに。比例を最後まで悩んだけれど、とりあえず。
１０時１０分には終わって夫と合流。
日本食も多いからランチして帰ろうかーとか話してたけど、それにも早すぎる。
運転手の夫に決めてもらおうと思っていたので、聞くと帰りたいというのですぐに帰り道に。
久しぶりの都会、どう感じるかなーと思ってたけど、特になにも。
シアトルだから？あまり圧迫感のない街だなと思った。水が多いからだろうか。
でもホームレスの人たちにひさしぶりにあって、それはおおお、となった。
寒くなるのに、大丈夫なんだろうか。
帰り道、山の中の道は、ものすごいきれいだった。
ウェナチー川の紅葉は、たぶん日本のどこの名所よりきれい。
何がちがうかと言うと、保護されている以外はほったらかしで、観光地化があまり進んでなくて、人が少ないことだろうか。ただ、圧倒的な紅葉と、岩と、きれいな水がずーっとつづいていて、ほんとうに言葉を失った。山の神様を見た、と思った。
３時ごろ帰宅。
コープで買ってきたサンドイッチを食べる。
午後はしっかり休んだ。
夫がステッカーをつくってくれる。
ああ、大変だったけれど、シアトルはそんなに遠くないし、道も思ったより走りやすいしで、いい経験になった。
