yuko's diary 1/6/26

Tuesday.

I went to work.

It was cloudy but not too cold.

The first patient was the person we met at the barter faire.

They remembered me.

There was another patient who told me that there was an exchange student named Yuko when they were young.

I told them that it’s fairy common name.

It was packed schedule to begin with, but ended up very little.

I went for a walk after lunch.

There was a treadmill in the office and so I tried it for the first time.

I thought it’s scarier.

I was done by 4 and stopped at co-op.

I ate pumpkin salad and toast for dinner.

I did my workout and did little bit of jumping rope.

I also worked on my spoon.

The time melts when I’m working on them.

When Dan came home, we had so much to talk about.

We kept talking in the bed.

He asked what “konbannwa” means, and I realized there is not one English word can match that.

It is “good evening” but this can be used only at the certain time.

For example, you can’s say it at 10pm.

And “good night” can only use as greeting when you apart, not meet.

In English world, people supposed not to meet after evening?

In Spanish, you can say “Buenas noches” anytime at night.

火曜日。

仕事へ。

今日も曇りだけど寒くはない。

朝一番の患者さんはバーターフェアで出会った人だった。覚えてくれていてうれしい。

「昔うちにいた交換留学生もユウコって名前だったよ」と教えてくれた人も。

結構多い名前なんですというと驚いていらした。

予定が詰まっていたけれど、キャンセルも多く、閉所恐怖症の人もありで、最終的にこなした数は少なかった。

お昼の後、歩きに出る。

オフィスにトレッドミルがあったので試してみる。

一回も試したことがないので、もっと怖いかと思っていた。

4時に上がってコープに寄って帰る。

まだ残っていたカボチャサラダとトーストで簡単に晩ごはん。

ワークアウトして、縄跳びも少し。

ちょっとスプーンづくりもする。

カンナをかけているとすぐに時間が過ぎてしまうくらい楽しい。

その後はのんびりして過ごした。

夫が帰宅して、たくさんおしゃべり。

おふとんに入ってからも喋った。

最近日本語を勉強している夫に「こんばんは」はなんだっけ？と聞かれて、ぴったり当てはまる言葉が英語にないなと気づく。

一番近いのはGood evening だけれど、これは夕刻の挨拶であって、たとえば10時過ぎには使えない。その場合はHelloを使う。

Good nightは「おやすみなさい」で、別れ際の挨拶にしか使えない。

うーん。英語の世界では夜に人に出会わないことになっているのかな。おもしろいな。

スペイン語にはあるのがまたおもしろい。Buenas noches!
